Olympic flare is all the rage and Southgate Shopping Centre had its own special Olympic themed event to celebrate.
The shopping centre set-up a special area near the east mall entrance by the fountains dedicated to the 2012 London Olympics. Adding to the allure of the rushing waters behind them, mannequins were decorated with the latest Canadian themed Olympic gear, which fit perfectly with the multitude of Canadian Maple leafs that dangled gracefully from the ceiling.
The event kicked off with some riveting cheerleaders who exuded Canadian pride in their cheers. After the cheerleaders finished, some aspiring Olympian gymnasts stepped in front of the fountains to show off their amazing flexibility and dexterity, tumbling and catching hool-a-hoops in mid air. The Purdy’s chocolate hedgehog even joined in on the celebration; the 6 foot mascot walked around, giving out chocolate and taking pictures with admiring kids.
Even though the opening show concluded in the early afternoon, by no means did that means Olympic fans couldn’t participate on more of Southgate’s event. Set up on both sides of the fountains were 50″ widescreen Toshiba televisions, broadcasting the amazing spectacle of the London 2012 opening ceremonies. If that wasn’t enough for fans, anybody interested could get a free Olympic photo at the Flashworks Photobooth, with all pictures to be collaged into a patriotic send off to the hard working Olympic athletes down in London, and posted on the Southgate Centre’s facebook page.
Flashworks would like to extend our thanks to Southgate for letting us be a part of this local Olympic celebration, and to everyone who took the time to enjoy themselves in our Olympic style Photobooth!
