No expense was spared for Kelly and Brian’s wedding and reception at the immaculate Spruce Meadows on the edge of Calgary.

Not long after a ceremony on the international ring grounds, guests made their way to the Congress Hall. Within the entrance, they proceeded down a corridor decorated with translucent white fabric illuminated by blue lights from below and tiled by black snowflake-like patterns along a long table where guest could deposit their cards and gifts, and flip though a wedding album they could add their well wishes into.

The decor In the main area was nothing short of astounding. A timeless and dynamic theme of black and white permeated the hall, while blue lighting lit white fabric along the perimeter of the entire room. Centerpieces of white peonies, assorted roses, jasmine and geranium foliage were the focus of certain tables while other tables featured lush white floral arrangements of roses, hydrangeas, and stephanotis in tall candelabras. As no table was decorated identically to another, the guests had numerous breathtaking arrangements and decor to admire.  A touch of black was added by the candle holders which were placed amongst the flower arrangements on every table. Tables were topped with sparkly and sequined, ruffled or chic damask detailing on the tablecloths and crystal highlights gave this reception its splash and sparkle. Even a straightforward napkin was dressed up by adorning it with a jeweled ring. The chairs also received this lavish treatment as some were embellished with rhinestone highlights, black satin ribbons, ruffled chair back covers, or pretty white satin sashes.

Along with the unique tables, the head tables was the most spectacular of them all. Above these two tables hovered a tree-like structure made out of little white lights, while below, layers of white orchids flowed down from the front of the tables.

On each end of the room, there was an enclosed space created by a row of trees adorned by hanging crystals, orchids and lights. Within these spaces two of our photobooths were set-up; one with our green screen options and external monitor so that guests could see the backgrounds superimposed behind the patrons.

After an hour of cocktails where guests could mingle, admire the decor, and make their way to the balcony to view the “Meadows on the Ring” grounds, the bridal party made their grand entrance. The beautiful bridesmaids wore strapless tiffany colored cocktail dresses with pleated mock surplus sweetheart necklines, empire shapes waist, with a sparkling crystal embellished brooch that sparkled just as brightly as the bridesmaids. Matching the bridesmaids, the groomsmen sported Tiffany coloured ties on white shirts under gray suit jackets.

After brief introductions, GreatEvents Catering served the first of a 4 course meal while the first of the speeches got underway. A champagne sorbetto served in a horseshoe shaped ice sculpture followed the pan peared sea scalloped while guests listened to stories about Brian’s character and experiences in China with Kelly’s family. Nancy mother’s gave a speech during the entree of beef tenderloin where she toasted Brian and Kelly with a coup de mariage and presented them with the traditional cultural wedding gifts from a number of the places they had visited: China, Holland, Germany, Mexico, Hawaii, and Africa.  Following the concluding speech from the newlyweds thanking their friends, family and vendors for all of their help, they cut their scrumptious white chocolate, five layer wedding cake. Each cake tier, including the beautifully scalloped base, was decorated with a baby blue ribbon to tie into the theme of the weddings. The cake cutting also served as the unveiling of the dessert area filled with a fantastic array of sweets, many in blue to match the evening’s theme.

When the formal program came to the end, the mother of the bride came up to the bejewelled podium and mentioned that she had one big surprise for her daughter and new son-in-law. I don’t think anybody could believe what they were hearing when the mother welcomed in Kevin Costner and his band Modern West! A movie tribute was played just before Kevin walked up to the bride and groom and then led them both onto the dance floor where they shared their first dance to the live singing of “Let Me be the One.”  The second slow song Kevin asked all the couples to come out and dance with their significant other. Everybody was having the time of their lives at this wedding, especially the bride and groom! After Kevin and Modern West had completed their time with the guests, DJ Alan Smithson from SmithsonMartin took over and wowed the crowd with some wedding favourites and then transitioned into electronica. All the while, the lighting around the room set-up by Bill from the Stardust Event Group pulsed and ebbed to the music.

The  two photobooths got tons of usage from all the guests, young and old. They loved accessorizing with our funny props and forming goofy poses for the camera.  The bride and groom provided a scrapbook at each booth for theirs guests to paste in a copy of their photo sessions along with a little note of love, luck and good fortune for the future.
