On Saturday, September 29th, family and friends celebrated the marriage of Mike and Hadla in their beautiful ballroom at The Westin Hotel in downtown Edmonton.
As guests arrived on the second floor of the hotel, they walked past a reception and gift table into a banquet room with a silver them that was filled with dozens of round tables adorned with silver table cloths, as well as a tall cylinder vase centerpieces. The vases were filled with birch branches and white flowers, and were surrounded by lit candles. Each guest had porcelain bird salt and pepper shakers to take home in their own cases stating the quote, “Love rest dream nest”. The beautiful bride and handsome groom, alongside their bridal party, sat at a head table draped in a silver while the words “Basil and Hadla” were projected behind them onto a sheer white curtain with translucent blue and purple lights.
The evening commenced with the bridal party entering the banquet room to a complication of Black Eyed Peas songs, followed by the bride and groom escorted in traditional Arabic fashion. With Arabic chanting and drumming, guests clapped to the beat and eventually encircled the new couple dancing and chanting as well. After being seated, the Westin provided a delightful plated dinner which included roast chicken in a cream mushroom sauce, spinach and feta salad, roast vegetables and tiramisu for dessert. Afterwards, following the speech from the maid of honor, the MC asked for applause for the tw0 best mothers in the building. “I honestly believe these 2 belong together, their relationship is based on friendship, love and selflessness.” The speeches continued, with words from the brother of the groom and the MC, and lastly, from the new couple themselves. Giving thanks to Westin staff, as well as to their friends, family, and guests for their support, they went on to described their relationship as “a typical love story told in slow motion.” Finally, the cake was cut while U2’s “The Sweetest Thing” played in the background.
With the conclusion of the formal program, the party kicked into high gear with the DJ playing music ranging from the ethnic to the old school rap to dance athems like “Danza Kuduro” to country. Both the dance floor and photobooth were full of action until the early morning!
Congratulations to the new couple on their lovely and well cherished evening. Hadla and Mike, thank-you for inviting us to your beautiful wedding!
