Flashworks Photobooth had a great time entertaining the grade 6 through grade 12 students that attended the Friday sessions of the Dreamcatcher Aboriginal Youth Conference 2011 at the downtown Grant MacEwan campus.
For the past 19 years, Dreamcatcher has provided a unique opportunity for Aboriginal youth from across Canada to gather together to explore educational and career opportunities, celebrate culture, and develop new friendships. This year’s conference was hosted by the Faculty of Health and Community Studies, this youth conference’s message was one of self-empowerment – Dream It, Learn It, Achieve It.
Starting at noon on Friday, October 14th was a MacEwan Educational Fair where attendees could learn about the many programs and services available to students attending Grant MacEwan University. Tours of the campus, student residence, and library were provided, and there was a the graffiti wall and scrapbooking area where conference goers could indulge their creative sides. There were also mini fitness classes and many entertaining and informative speakers and sessions.
And later in the afternoon special keynote speaker Troy Payne took the stage with his “The Road to Resiliency” presentation explores youth wellness issues such as divorce, bullying, abuse, and self-esteem. His powerful program looks at the impact these factors have on personal wellness and how survivors of these elements can empower themselves to break these cycles and lead healthier and more harmonious lives.
Thanks to the organizers of this fantastic event for inviting Flashworks Photobooth to be a part of it!
