The Edmonton Economic Development Corporation Winter Gala was nothing less than magical. From the hanging glass chandeliers illuminated by blue lights, to the dance floor lit up a massive disco ball, to the ice sculptures amongst the desert tables, to everyone dressed formally to celebrate Christmas with their coworkers – this night couldn’t have been more perfect.
Walking in the main foyer of Hall D within the Shaw Conference Centre, guests could buy tickets for drinks and for the photobooth, leave a donation for the Edmonton Food Bank, or buy 50/50 raffle tickets with proceeds going to the United Way. Guests were then teased by the three rows of tables of delicious smelling buffet food, but of course, everyone had to find their seats first. In the banquet hall, snowflakes were projected onto the walls, creating a Christmas-y feel to the evening. In the front there was a stage where the DJ was ready to get everybody dancing.
One after the other, each of the 80 tables were called up to help themselves to a vast selection of entree selections. Even after everyone was full, of course, there was still room for desert and the central desert table in the hall was filled with mousses, cheesecake, crème brule with caramel, and a delicious chocolate fruit fondue with an assortment of fruits. When everyone was done eating desert, one of the workers at the Shaw was a very talented hip hop dancer, and wanted to show his dance moves so he did a little solo for everyone else, and that had other people wanting to show off their moves, and that’s how everyone started dancing.
In the northeast corner of the hall, two of our photobooths were set-up; one traditionally enclosed for privacy and the other with a green screen which had everyone excited to make some memories that evening. Even with the diverse, all the photos had one thing in common – all were having the time of their lives, letting loose, being silly, and just having fun.
From the delicious food to the amazing entertainment, this night was a night to remember. We’d like to extend all involved in planning this tremendous event a big thank-you for including us. We hope to see you again next Christmas!
