For an undergraduate student, there is no sweeter day than the one where they don their convocation robes, sash, and graduation cap, and culminate the years of study with the receipt of their diploma. Flashworks Photobooth was honoured to be able to capture this moment in time for the students that attended the Faculty of Science Convocation Reception.
Spanning two floors of the south atrium of the new Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) at the University of Alberta, students gathered for some refreshments and fun with friends and family. Upon entering the CCIS, a table was set-up with information for alumni, while nearby were placed numerous vertical banners each detailing the life and accomplishments of notable scientists and former graduates from the Faculty. In the atrium, a slightly elevated stage with podium was setup and draped in black, and cocktail tables with colourful runners and modest centerpieces of gerber daisies lined the walkway rail. On the mezzanine above, cocktail tables were similarly positioned, however, two large arrangement of tables featured a wide assortment of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres from Classic Fare Catering, including smoked salmon, small ham sandwiches, antipasto skewers, spanakopita, vegetable springs rolls, beef meatballs, chicken satay, amongst others.
After people had a chance to sample the cuisine, a short program began where the outgoing Dean of Science, Dr. Gregory Taylor, addressed his final group of graduates (almost 10,000 in total to date). Graduate Lindsey Heagy, recipient of the Lieutenant-Governor’s Gold Medal for the highest distinction in scholarship, was chosen to present the graduating class’s convocation speech. A number of other awards and distinctions were also awarded.
Before and after the program, grads were excited to have their photos snapped by the Flashworks Photobooth while standing against our green-screen. After each session, the printout was placed into a black folder and presented to each graduate as a keepsake of their special day.
Congratulations to the Faculty of Science graduating class of 2012! Flashworks Photobooth had a great time helping you celebrate!
