The River City Round Up Kickoff started Friday night with TGIF on the square. Folks came to enjoy a pint at the beer gardens and take a load off after a hard week’s work. All in attendance were dazzled by Shane Chisholm’s performance on the main stage on Friday.
Saturday brought even more fun for the family. The main stage show began before noon which included performances by the First Nations trio ASANI, Blackstone Drum Group and Dancers, Kikino Dancers, Command Sisters and Livy Jeanne. The Chinook tent was home to a host of other smaller yet equally talented acts which provided entertainment for those that stepped inside to warm up or to grab a bite to eat. Along with great music the Chinook tent had a Western Art Show that showcase some uniquely Canadian art. Patrons could also take a ride on a mechanical bull, which was a big hit with kids and adults, alike.
Outside of city hall there were even more attractions at The Splash where guests could get a fill of Guns of the Golden West, Edmonton Square Dance Society, Kikino Dancers and the Blackstone Drum Group and Dancers.
The Kickoff’s headline act George Canyon was a huge hit. Churchill square was full of people braving the cold to hear George play. After the show a firework display amazed the gathered crowd and which gave the city’s annual New Year’s Eve display a run for its money.
A big thanks to Jim Beam for having us out to entertain everyone with our photobooth! A Red Stag, representing Beam’s newest beverage, graced every print that guests received.
Everyone who came out to the 2012 River City Round Up Kickoff had a great time. What a perfect way to start up the Canadian Final Rodeo!!
